Co-Curricular

Sentinel Kalumbila School offers a variety of co-curricular programs from which students can choose each term.

All sports that are part of the co-curricular program are compulsory and occur twice per week. These include cross country, swimming, triathlons, football, netball, hockey, athletics and tag rugby. All sports disciplines have competitions that take place each term. The sports program works hand in hand with the Physical Education lessons.

Additionally, students are also involved in a variety of clubs and team building activities that ensure the learners are developed holistically. These include coding, chess, scrabble, aerobics, rounders, art and craft, music, beginners’ chefs, game rangers, Expressive Arts, Number Jacks, Do It Yourself and swimming.

Sport

Our sports philosophy at Sentinel Kalumbila Primary focuses on developing each individual student to the best of their ability.

The results obtained are part of the team structures within the school setup which focus on:

Sportsmanship

Manners on and off the field – whether winning or losing, students must accept both outcomes in a humble manner.

Each athlete must be able to work on their strengths and weaknesses with guidance. Every team member has a role to play as a leader.

We view sports not in isolation, but as an integral part of the school curriculum.

Culture

The philosophy of culture at Sentinel Kalumbila emphasizes creativity, emotional development and personal expression.

This allows students to explore and communicate their thoughts, feelings and experiences through various artistic forms such as Music, Drama and Fine Art. This nurtures a safe and open environment where young learners feel free to experiment and express themselves without fear of judgment, fostering self-confidence and curiosity.

We integrate art, music, drama and other subjects so that students can make meaningful connections across different areas of knowledge. This helps to reinforce understanding and retention of concepts by engaging multiple senses and perspectives.

Art and Music activities are part of normal lessons as well as the extra-curricular program. Drama is mostly an extra-curricular activity. We hold musical drama productions at the end of each year where all students participate. Additionally, we hold cultural musical and dramatic activities each year during our cultural week.

Outdoor Education

Outdoor education is an integral part of the development of our students at Sentinel Kalumbila School.

We believe these experiences offer life skills, teach grit and teamwork which are essential in the development of a holistic student. The students take part in annual camps, both on and off school premises. These camps occur at the beginning of the winter season. Year 1-3 pupils camp at the school for one night, engaging in activities such as team building, cooking, making beds and more. These camps typically last for one day.

Year 4-7 students attend outdoor camps at the beautiful Fish Camp within our community. Here, learners gain skills in setting up tents, leadership and team-building activities. These camps usually span two days, with teachers participating in all the activities alongside the students.
