The school focuses on academic excellence by streaming incoming Year 8 students based on their Year 7 marks. This approach allows teaching to be scaffolded leading to a classroom environment where students’ needs are met and their full potential explored. Upon enrollment, new students from other schools must pass an entrance test in Mathematics, Science and English for appropriate class placement.
Additionally, the school prioritizes the welfare of junior students by monitoring attendance, discipline, punctuality, academic performance and co-curricular involvement. Parents are engaged when students struggle in any of these areas, ensuring comprehensive support for their development.
The Key Stage 4 curriculum (in Years 10, 11 and 12) offers breadth and balance, with courses leading to IGCSE (International General Certificate of Education) certification from Cambridge.
All students study a core curriculum, which includes external examination courses in First Language English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Physical Science. Students with recognised potential will pursue advanced curricular as advised by staff and these include Additional Mathematics and Literature. Students can also choose to follow their own selection of further examination courses in History, Geography, Business Studies, Physical Education, Environmental Management, Accounts and Computer Science.
The FQML (First Quantum Minerals Limited) KMP (Kansanshi Mining Plc) Mine generously provides a three-year scholarship to promising Year 10 students from across Zambia. These students are selected through a rigorous and merit-based process in their Year/Grade 9 academic year.
